WHY SUPER PEER?

One of the characteristics of ministry in new congregations is the “in-betweeness” of everything. For instance, pastors and leaders are stretched between belonging to a Christian tradition which experiences decline and seeking new ways of sharing and living the Christian gospel, with the frequent pressure of keeping the numbers growing to justify a church planting.

We struggle between promoting a celebratory worship experience and keeping our educational programs active and exciting. But, it seems that the amount of energy and dedication invested rarely equals our expectations of our ministry. We pray, we seek, we work…but frequently we wonder,  is this what planting a congregation is all about? Is this the ministry God has called me to do?

Looking at the practice and theology of the Lord’s Supper, we will explore the importance of ministerial and theological questions as a source for discovering the gospel anew and renew our vocation in ministry.

QUESTIONS LIKE…

  • How does the Lord's Supper infuse a congregation with a vocation for mission and evangelism?
  • What do we say and how do we "perform" the Lord's Supper?
  • How do our actions and words shape the understanding of the Lord's Supper for our congregation?
  • What can newcomers "read" or "get" about our congregation and our leadership style when they observe our worship celebration and the Lord's Supper?

WHEN, WHERE & WHO?

This event will be open for church planters and their spouses who are in years 1-5 of their project. As you well know, the first years of a church plant require constant care with little time off for spiritual renewal. You are now approaching the time when a new church often needs an extra boost of energy to get to the next level of development.
