How are we doing?

  • In 2007, 105 new congregations joined the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), putting Disciples close to the coveted 3% growth rate for mainline Protestant denominations.
  • November 2007, NCM sponsored a Congregationally Initiated Summit in Scottsdale, AZ.  Our guests were pastors of large congregations, who showed potential for initiating new churches.  Already we are seeing movement towards the development of 12 new congregations from this group.
  • A group of 12 New Church Planters traveled to Honduras for a Global Mission trip. This was an opportunity for them to see our mission partners overseas and discover why it is important to support the Disciples Mission Fund.  Support for this trip is provided through the Lilly grant.
  • February 2007, we hosted an initial training in the San Francisco area for 70 New Church Planters and teams representing 40 projects. This was our largest class ever.  Included in this class were a number of projects from northern California.
  • We continue to develop our Pentecost promotions for funding the movement. We have also made a special push with our new congregations encouraging their participation.
  • New Church Ministry has an excellent team that gives of themselves tirelessly in their commitment to the movement.  Their complementary gifts, dynamism and desire for excellence have propelled this ministry in some very exciting ways.
